Thirsk's Location

Thirsk is conveniently situated near the A1 and A19 motorways, and has a direct rail link to London via the East Coast Main Line.

There are also two airports in the vicinity: Leeds/Bradford and Durham/Tees Valley.

For tourism purposes, the Yorkshire Dales lie to the West, and the North York Moors to the East. The Lake district is also only 1.5 hours away to the North-West.

By Car

The A19 runs past Thirsk, North to Teesside, and South to York. The A1 links Thirsk with Newcastle and Leeds. The A170 links Thirsk to Scarborough to the east and A61 to Ripon in the west. The A168 links Thirsk to Northallerton.

By Rail

Thirsk Station lies on the east coast mainline between Darlington and York and Trans-Pennine routes. The Station is situated a mile and a half from the town centre. It is a flat walk and there is a regular bus service from the station to the town.

National Express Coaches to London, Glasgow, Hull and other destinations run through Thirsk. Thirsk is also served by several bus operators. Bus information is held at the bus stop in the Market Place, Thirsk Tourist Information Centre and the library.A wider tourist bus service covers the moors and dales in the summer.
